Vote shares show BJP is stronger than DMK in South India

The narrative since the Karnataka election results has been that BJP has been shown the exit door by South India. BJP is out of power in the sole South Indian State where it was in power.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, following the Congress party's victory, said that BJP has been removed from the Dravidian landmass. This made some analysts remind the DMK supremo that BJP is stronger than DMK.

BJP polled about 36% vote share in Karnataka in the 2023 Assembly elections. In 2021, the DMK polled about 37.7% in Tamil Nadu. This is despite the fact that AIADMK was facing severe anti-incumbency after 10 years of its rule. (Note: DMK contested on only 188 Assembly constituencies in TN, as it was in alliance with Congress, the Communist parties and others).

BJP polled a whopping 51.7% vote share in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka. For DMK, the number is only a pipe dream, BJP supporters are saying.
