Hyderabad's traffic woes worsen, a major leader thinks it is a worry!

"Due to water-logging near Lakdi Ka Pool and heavy flow of traffic, the movement of vehicles is slow from the Nampally Public Gardens gate, AR petrol pump, Gun Park, Ravindra Bharati, and DGP Office towards Lakdi Ka Poor," the Hyderabad Traffic Police tweeted on Saturday hours after parts of the city were witness to a downpour in the early hours.

Such citizen-friendly messaging has become more and more commonplace in a city that was once not at all notorious for traffic woes. As per Minister KT Rama Rao, Hyderabad is slowly and gradually becoming another Bengaluru in terms of traffic woes despite the fact that the urban infrastructure (read public transport options) here is pretty decent.

KTR pointed out on Friday that about 35 flyovers haven't been able to avert traffic problems. The TRS leader gave the example of Bengaluru where travel from the international airport to residential areas takes forever. He warned that Hyderabad must not become another Bengaluru.

The government could, in the future, expand the Metro network to ensure that road traffic gets eased. But will it be enough?
