Cyber Crime Arrests Malkajgiri Corporator Amid Allegations of Spreading Fake News

In a surprising development, Malkajgiri corporator Shravan, who was previously reported missing, has been apprehended by the Cyber Crime police. The arrest comes in connection with allegations of disseminating false information, specifically regarding purported electoral malpractice at a Bahadurpura polling station, falsely attributed to the MIM party in the Old City.

Initial reports suggested that Shravan had been abducted from a BJP office, fueling concerns of a potential kidnapping. However, subsequent investigations have revealed that he was detained by Hyderabad's Cyber Crime unit.

The controversy stems from a video circulating online, claiming to depict electoral rigging during Telangana's parliamentary elections. However, it has since been determined that the footage in question dates back to 2022 and originates from West Bengal, not Telangana.

A police constable associated with the Hyderabad Cyber Crime division filed a suo moto complaint on May 15, 2024, regarding the incident, shedding further light on the unfolding situation.
