Google may be bracing itself for a massive layoff during the first quarter of 2023. In this regard, the Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai seems to have given no assurance to the employees of Google that this may not happen.

Pichai reportedly mentioned in a companywide meeting where he said it is challenging to predict the future and he cannot be making forward-looking commitments honestly at this point of time. He also added that Google is working hard to make important decisions, become more disciplined, prioritise properly and rationalise wherever possible to face the storm, regardless of what lies ahead.

Several Big Tech majors like Meta, Twitter, Amazon, Cisco, Intel, and HP Inc have slashed jobs in the US and announced to do the same soon. Google and Apple are among the only Big Tech firms so far who haven’t announced any mega layoffs. There are reports that Google plans to layoff about 10,000 employees by means of a new ranking plan. This may be shocking news for the techie careers based in the USA. However, many small and medium companies may hold some hope even as the industry corrects itself and may be expected to bounce back in a year or so.
